Vellen — Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 19, 2026
The short version
Vellen is a notes app that keeps your notes as plain files on your own devices. We built it so that your notes stay yours.
- No servers. Vellen has no backend. Your notes are never uploaded to us.
- No account. You don't sign up, and we don't have a profile on you.
- No tracking. No analytics, no advertising, no third-party trackers, no cookies following you around.
- No training. Your notes are never used to train any AI model.
We (CapitalCalcs LLC) do not collect, receive, store, sell, or share your personal information or the contents of your notes. Full stop. The rest of this document just explains the details and the few optional features that touch services you choose to connect.

Information we collect
None. Vellen runs entirely on your device. There is no Vellen server to send anything to, no account system, and no analytics or telemetry built into the app. We have no way to see your notes, your file names, how you use the app, or even whether you use it.
Your notes and files
Your notes, whiteboards, attachments, version history, and settings are stored as ordinary files and app data on your own devices. You can read, move, back up, or delete them with or without Vellen. When you delete a note it goes to the app's Trash (recoverable); emptying the Trash or uninstalling the app removes the data. You are in control of your content at all times.
Optional features that connect to services you choose
Some features are off until you turn them on. When you do, data flows directly between your device and a service you control or select — never through us.
Sync with Google Drive (optional)
If you turn on sync, Vellen signs you in to your own Google
account and syncs your notes through your own Google
Drive. Vellen requests only the drive.file permission,
which limits it to the files it creates in your Drive — it cannot see or
touch the rest of your Drive. Your notes are stored in your Drive, not on any
Vellen server. Google's handling of your Drive data is governed by
Google's Privacy Policy. You can disconnect at any time;
your notes stay where they are.
AI features — bring your own key (optional)
Vellen's AI features are BYOK (bring-your-own-key): you supply your own API key for a provider you choose (such as OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google). When you use an AI feature, the note text you choose to include is sent directly from your device to that provider, under your own account, to produce a response. That provider's privacy policy and terms apply to what they do with it. Vellen adds no fee, runs no inference of its own, and never routes your notes through its own servers. We do not use your notes to train anything, and we don't control whether your chosen provider does — check their policy if that matters to you. AI features are entirely optional; if you never add a key, no note content ever leaves your device for AI.
Web capture (optional)
If you use the web-capture or clipper feature, Vellen fetches the web page you choose so it can save a readable copy as a note. That's a request from your device to the site you picked, the same as visiting it in a browser.
Update checks
Vellen periodically checks a small public version file to let you know when a newer version is available. This is an ordinary web request that returns only a version number and release note. Like any web request, it reveals your device's IP address to whatever hosts that file, but no personal information and no note content is ever sent. It carries nothing about you or your notes.
Credentials stored on your device
If you connect Google Drive or add an AI key, those credentials (a Drive sign-in token; your AI keys) are stored locally on your device only, in the app's private storage. They are used solely to talk to the service you connected, and they are never transmitted to us.
Analytics, advertising, and tracking
There are none. Vellen contains no third-party analytics, no advertising SDKs, no tracking pixels, and no cross-app or cross-site tracking. We do not profile you and we do not sell or share data — because we don't have any.
Children's privacy
Vellen is a general-purpose tool and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect information from children — in fact, we don't knowingly collect information from anyone.
Your rights
Because we hold no personal data about you, there is nothing for us to access, correct, export, or delete on our end. Your data lives with you: manage or delete it directly on your devices, and (if you enabled sync) in your own Google Drive. Where you enabled an optional third-party service (Google, an AI provider), you can exercise your rights with that provider directly under their policy.
Changes to this policy
The commitments at the top — no servers, no tracking, no ads, no training on your notes — are foundational to how Vellen is built, and we intend to keep them. If we ever update this policy for clarity or legal reasons, we'll post the new version with a new "Last updated" date. Material changes will be noted in the app or on our website.
